There is no known cure for Rheumatoid Arthritis. Many researchers

in the treatment and possible prevention of Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Recent research has shown a link between diet and lifestyle and
chronic disease including Rheumatoid Arthritis. In populations who

are rare when compared to the North American population.
We do know that the most commonly observed vitamin and mineral deficiencies in patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis, are folic acid, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin E, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, zinc and selenium. Although nutritionists agree that food is always the preferred source for vitamins and minerals, it may be essential to use a supplement to help in replacing the outlined deficiencies to improve the nutritional status for patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Research has also shown that antioxidants such as selenium and vitamin E may decrease free-radical damage to the joint linings, which help with reduce the incidence of swelling and arthritis pain.
Researchers at Epsom General Hospital and the University of Glasgow
released a review of existing studies in regard to diet and
inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Reviewing over
225 studies they concluded that there is considerable evidence that
Rheumatoid Arthritis
is caused by oxidative stress and involves an excessive production of
pro-inflammatory compounds like tumor necrosis factor-alpha and
interleukin-1beta. Research has shown that supplementation with fish
oils (eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid) can markedly
reduce interleukin-1beta production and results in a significant
reduction in morning stiffness and the number of painful joints in
Rheumatoid Arthritis
patients. Omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (found in cooking oils and
margarine), on the other hand, have been found to exacerbate Rheumatoid
Arthritis
symptoms. Fish oils have also been found useful in the management of
systemic lupus erythematosus.
They point out that fish oil supplements should contain at least 3 mg of
vitamin E per gram of fish oil in order to avoid excessive peroxidation.

Studies have proved it. Glucosamine Sulfate and Chondroitin Sulfate, along with specific antioxidant vitamins and minerals mentioned above can actually stabilize and even reverse the progression of joint and cartilage deterioration. Research has also shown that when a glucosamine deficiency is corrected, the body replenishes its ability to replace worn-out joint cells and tissues. These supplements are discussed in detail later in this series.
Daily exercise is used an as effective treatment for Rheumatoid
Arthritis. Staying active on a daily basis will preserve strength and
mobility of the joints. A nourishing and well-balanced diet including
ample fiber will also promote good overall health and a sense of well
being. Quiet times and relaxation exercises will alleviate some of the
stress of dealing with rheumatoid arthritis.
