Color = yellow ranging from a deep gold to almost colorless. The "Extra" quality exhibits the deepest color.

Plant description
Tropical tree growing approximately 25 feet tall, with pink, mauve or yellow flowers.
Aromatherapy Uses
Ylang ylang is used to lower high blood pressure, palpitations and tachycardia. Stress relief. Ylang Ylang mixed with jasmine or rose has been used to treat sexual difficulties, especially those stemming from lack of confidence and/or inhibition. It is useful in treating PMS and menopausal mood swings, especially when mixed with Clary Sage. Recent research indicates that inhaling Ylang Ylang before the onset of a seizure may help control epilepsy. Good jasmine substitute, long used for its sensual properties. Soothing and relaxing during times of tension and stress. Ideal for both hair and skin.

Grades of oil
Ylang Ylang is one of the few essential oils subjected to fractional distillation, i.e., yielding in succession Ylang Ylang Extra, #1, #2, and #3 A complete Ylang Ylang is available either from a non fractional distillation, or from a combination of all the fractions. While no recognized standards exist, Ylang Ylang extra and 1st grade should there should be more esters and the oils should be more effective as antidepressants and relaxants. In lower grades, you will see fewer esters, and an increase in sesquiterpenes and caryophyllene providing a better choice for skin care and as an anti viral oil.
Warnings
Due to its strong scent, ylang-ylang should be used in moderation, or else it
might cause headache or nausea. Excessive use can cause headaches; generally
considered non-toxic and non-irritant. Not a known sensitizer.
