Reflexology Can Help You !

Quitting smoking

Relaxation and the use of the relevant pressure points in a reflexology therapy can help to reduce the number of cigarettes smoked by smokers and eventually support total abstinence.

Cobblestone walking

Studies reveal that if you walk on a cobblestone mat surface your blood pressure will be reduced to a great extent. It also improves balance and physical performance among the age groups of 60 and adults. Walking on the river rock-like surface of manufactured cobblestone mats improves balance and measures of mobility. Also this leads to a reduction of blood pressure. These results cannot be achieved by conventional walking. Researchers observed that people in china spent a minimum of nearly 30 minutes each day walking, standing and even participating in traditional dance forms on the common cobblestone pathways of the cities gardens and parks. It can be concluded that cobblestone walking has its roots in traditional Chinese medicine and relates to some of the principles of reflexology. The uneven surface of the cobblestones stimulates and regulates acupoints located on the soles of the feet.

Theory of Reflexology Zone Theory

Reflexology therapy can be used to treat stress, fatigue, illness, toxins, and inactivity. These are harmful influences on the body. According to zone theory the body can be divided into ten zones, each half of the body containing five zones. Impulses and reflexes in each zone travel until they reach nerve endings in the feet and the hands. These zones are believed to be meridians and energy flows along these. If pressure is applied to the nerve endings in the hands and the feet then the organs found in that particular zone will be affected. There are also cross-reflex points along longitudinal zones throughout the body. These cross-reflex points correspond to the opposite side of the body. These can be useful to apply reflexology therapy when pressure cannot be placed on the reflex point.

Reflexology is useful for the treatment of a variety of ailments in aged people. Some of them are listed below:

Aged care & Reflexology

  • Improvement in symptoms of high cholesterol and and monoglyceride (hyperlipimia) was seen among older people who received foot reflexology.
  • Seniors who suffered constipation evacuate their bowels more quickly when receiving reflexology treatment.
  • Blood flow to the intestines improves and influence the organ when pressure is applied to the corresponding reflex area.
  • Flow of blood to the kidneys change thereby influencing the associated organ on applying pressure to the corresponding reflex area.
  • Senior citizens experience low blood pressure, less pain and improvement in sense of control over falls while walking on a reflexology mat.
  • Changes in autonomic outflow (baroreceptor reflex sensitivity) brought about a significantly greater reduction in the mechanism of the heart, which maintains blood pressure and homeostasis.
  • Drug therapy used in the treatment of skin inflammation with itching (neurodermatitis) cause side effects like fatigue, sleeplessness and gastrointestinal symptoms. These side effects were not found with reflexology therapy.
  • Low white blood cell count was found to improve greatly by reflexology than medication.
