Heat Therapy

Heat therapy is actually detrimental to some types of muscular pain, specifically those accompanied by inflammation. But because Fibromyalgia does not cause any inflammation of the soft tissues, heat therapy can be beneficial in easing the pain and discomfort. An electric heating pad or a long, hot bubble bath can help boost circulation to the affected areas, flushing out toxins and speeding the healing process.

Fibromyalgia Information

Reliable and timely Fibromyalgia information is often hard to find. What is Fibromyalgia? Who gets Fibromyalgia? How does one arrive at a Fibromyalgia diagnosis? Sometimes your doctor won’t be able to answer your questions for you. There are no specialists in this disorder, so doctors don’t always have access to the latest research. Furthermore, many Fibromyalgia information sources confuse the disorder with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, a disease associated with similar symptoms.

The Benefits of Trigger Point Therapy, Moist Heat Packs and Gentle Stretching

The following steps are the treatment tips that help in the recovery from fibromyalgia.

Listed below are the top treatment tips that helped individuals to recover from fibromyalgia and chronic pain problems.

Fibromyalgia Treatment - Short Term Solutions

Recommended reading: Pain Erasure by Bonnie Prudden.

  1. Search out the trigger point areas using a massage tool. An important point to note is that where your body hurts the most may not be the source of the pain. If you would like some help locating trigger points we have a chart of common trigger points for you.

  2. Apply moist heat packs to the areas with the trigger points. For some reason they have to be moist, dry heat just doesn't have the same impact. If you have fibromyalgia you probably have trigger points all over your body, so you have to do trigger point triage - pick the places that are the tightest for the heat packs and save the others for another session once the first set has been loosened up. Our herbal moist heat packs are prefect for this application. Epsom salt baths are also helpful. (Epsom salts are made of magnesium sulfate. Magnesium is the main nutrient involved in muscle relaxation.)

  3. Apply counter pressure to the trigger points to loosen them up. For people who also have problems with tight muscles, this technique works amazingly well. We have also used hot water bottles covered with a moist cloth. This works, but not as well. As herbal heat packs.

  4. Follow the counter pressure session with a stretching / gentle yoga session to relax and lengthen tight muscles. If yoga or any other exercise hurts, skip them at first. Pain is your body's way of telling you that hurts - don't do that. Many find that pain during exercise just led to more pain.

  5. How to tell if the steps are working - experiment by just doing the treatment sessions on only one leg and then taking a walk around the block. It's amazing how much more relaxed the leg that has had the heat packs, trigger point therapy and stretches feels. It's no wonder that people with fibromyalgia also often have Chronic Fatigue syndrome. When your muscles are really tight, it takes much more effort to move them. You probably don't realize just how tight your muscles are until they start to loosened up.
